A Dream Wedding on a Dream Island

I believe that May and June are the nicest months for organizing a wedding. The nature completely wakes up; everything is green and flowery, full of pleasant scents. The weather is sunny, but not yet dried up in the summer heat. Even the people are more positive and friendly. I didn't manage to organize my wedding in the season I dreamed of, but I managed to have it in September on an island I dreamed of: the largest island of Brijuni Archipelago. 

Brijuni is the only national park in Istrian Peninsula, but for me it's such a great place that it's worth ten others! I was only a little girl the first time I set my foot on its grounds and that visit was deeply carved into my mind. The place looks like you're in a fairy tale with its cultivated nature, green pastures, tame animals and nice old hotels. All surrounded by sea that's so clear and so beautifully blue!

Years have passed, I grew up, met a wonderful man and we decided that we’re tired of being stylishly unmarried. So we organized a small wedding, only for a dozen of people. At first we didn't even consider Brijuni, because we thought it was out of our league. We asked around all over the southern Istria about the wedding locations, music, accommodation, catering, and flowers and couldn't believe how much everything was pricy! Then we said, ok, let's just ask how much something like that would cost at Brijuni and sent them an e-mail. 

Believe it or not, the value of their offer was incredibly favorable! It wasn't a cheap price, but a really decent one. Also the people that work there are incredibly friendly and forthcoming and they really know what they're doing. So when you put yourself into their hands, they lead you all the way through and in the end you won't feel disappointed. For example, they organized flowers and all of the decorations for us; they offered several locations for the big event and transportation in electric cars, tourist train or even an old Mercedes that was driven by President Tito many years ago. They provided us with catering, gave us a great menu to choose from, offered wines of the highest quality, they even had their own chef make us a wedding cake of our choice – we just gave them a photo and ingredients we like!!!  In the end, we were offered an apartment in a hotel for the price of a single room. 

We decided to stay in a room in an art nouveau hotel on Brijuni, and managed to  find accomodation for our guests  in a cool villa in Fažana.

And when that day arrived, everything went smoothly.  More or less, that is – they were some kids from another party running through our venue during the reception, I didn't like the way our registrar was dressed and later I realized that a hanger lace was sticking out of the back of my dress . But believe me when I say, these are the only three irritating things that happened. Everything else was completely divine! We drank, ate, danced and laughed all day long! We pretended we were attending a kind of a celebrity event, so once again my dream island gave me a deep and loving memory. 

It was sunny most of the time, but at one point it started raining like crazy. My new husband took my hand and led me to the sea. We kissed under these rainy clouds and I thought of an old Italian saying: Sposa bagnata, sposa fortunata!
