I read that Poreč was the only city in Istrian peninsula with a positive natural population growth. It currently has around twenty thousand citizens, and this number keeps increasing. The reason Is probably because this is a desirable place to live - in a good climate, near the seaside and yet in an urban area and, on top of this, it has a largest nett income in private sector in Istria per employer.
If you don't intend to relocate to Poreč and only look to find a nice place for your next vacation near the Adriatic, this might be the perfect destination. Besides the aforementioned climate and geographic benefits, Poreč has many other natural beauties and cultural landmarks. It's placed on western Istrian coast and it is one of the most attractive summer resorts in peninsula.
The city is at least two thousand years old and has many ruins from the Roman period. But the most appealing landmark of this town is a famous early Christian building – The Euphrasian Basillica. It was built in 6th century and it's the only Istrian site that's inscribed on UNESCO World Heritage List. Why? Because it's the best preserved early Byzantium building in the entire Mediterranean. Some of the elements of the building, such as parts of the mosaics, aren't even in Byzantine style – they're actually remains of old Roman temples.
And – to answer my question from the title – I can't tell about others, but for me Poreč has a special pleasant atmosphere, it makes me feel good and relaxed. This town's combination of views of the sea, historical landmarks, beaches, bars and restaurants, lots of friendly people, seafront promenades, scents of the Mediterranean plants provide an amazing harmonic impression.
